NHA Advanced Training: Fargo ND 2011

The five day Advanced Training is for those treatment professionals and educators who wish to master the techniques of The Nurtured Heart Approach. Participants will receive full certification in the use of the approach in all venues of treatment, consultation, and education. This training is designed to lead you into knowing the approach from the inside-out - deeply understanding the approach - and in a way- “becoming the approach!”

Those who have taken this training often consider it life changing and beyond anything they ever expected in terms of it providing a rich and meaningful experience.

The Nurtured Heart Approach has shown itself to be enormously beneficial to professionals in providing superior work with families, children and schools, producing excellent results within the framework of limited resources and limiting circumstances. This intensive training has consistently produced Certified Nurtured Heart therapists and educators who have extremely successful results and who go on to thoroughly enjoy their part in transforming children and families.
The training will be limited to an appropriate number of participants and will be personally led by HOWARD GLASSER, the developer of THE NURTURED HEART APPROACH- along with his incredibly gifted co-author of the Transforming the Difficult Child Workbook, LISA BRAVO. This collaboration will allow for in-depth training, participation and dialogue.

It is required that all participants have either previously attended or viewed a one-day transforming the difficult child workshop in person or on DVD or have read one of the core Nurtured Heart Approach books, and at the very least experimented with the this approach in your personal or professional life. Most of my colleagues believe that a child’s intensity is a problem that needs to be treated with medications and made to go away. I’ve developed an approach that puts parents and teachers into the driver’s seat and gives them the perspective and strategies to shift children into using their intensity in beautiful ways.

Many children wind up on medications simply because there has not been an approach that consistently helps them to use their intensity successfully. 75% of all children evaluated for conditions such as ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder receive medication on the very first visit. The unfortunate underlying message is: your teacher can’t control you, your parent can’t control you, and you can’t control yourself…you need a substance to control you. Parents and teachers end up feeling inadequate and blamed as well.

Ordinary methods of parenting and teaching typically backfire with intense children. Despite the best of intentions, the more adults attempt normal responses, the worse the situation can inadvertently become.

The culprits are the methods most people have at their disposal…not the parents, teacher or the child. Approaches designed for the average child are not powerful or encompassing enough to have a transformative effect on children with behaviors involving opposition, defiance or inability to manage strong impulses or emotions.
